It is reported that the Japanese government has decided to remove the skirt form among the two types of existing skirts and pants for female police officers' work clothes.
According to Japan's public broadcaster NHK, as the scope of work for female police officers has expanded, skirt clothes are gradually not worn because they are uncomfortable to work on the spot. As a result, skirt attire has been officially excluded for the first time in about 50 years since the police officers' uniform regulations were specified. It was in 1976 that the uniform regulations for female police officers were officially specified in Japan.
The police officer's uniform is specified in detail in design, color, and material so that it can be identified as a police officer at a glance. In the case of female police officers, jackets and shirts can be worn for tops, and pants or skirts can be worn for bottoms, so front-line police stations have been operating to choose between pants or skirts to reflect individual wishes.
However, as the number of female police officers working at the scene increased, there were more opinions that "skirts are uncomfortable to move," and many local police stations were already no longer paying skirt outfits. As a result, the Japanese National Police Agency decided to abolish the dress of skirts altogether in order to unify uniform styles nationwide.
The new regulations will take effect on the 1st of next month.
In addition, a polyester polo shirt-type uniform will be introduced instead of a summer uniform consisting of only existing shirts in accordance with the summer heat. Polo shirt-type uniforms will be introduced on a trial basis in Saitama Prefecture from May.
Meanwhile, in Korea, it is currently possible to choose pants or skirts as working clothes for female police officers. In fact, it is known that most of them do not wear skirts for active reasons such as on-site work, but only wear them as robes for official events and protocol.
