MEDINA, Ohio -- It's amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do.

On Tuesday (June 6), 15 employees of the Sherwin Williams Company donated their time and talent to paint the interior of the vacant store that will soon open as the nonprofit retail shop The Giving Place.

The new store, located at 1095 N. Court St., will open June 17, offering gently used clothing, furniture, household décor and odds and ends that have been generously donated by community members.

According to Halle Matejka, manager of the North Royalton Sherwin Williams store and president of the company's area Women's Resource Group, "All over the U.S., the company regularly supplies workers and products to support a good cause."

She was joined by Matt Frownfelter, a district manager, in supervising the crew of painters.

The company donated 20 gallons of paint and 10 gallons of primer, in addition to providing rolling scaffolding, paint sprayers and painting equipment including rollers and brushes.

Frownfelter referred to the store managers and sales representatives donating their time as "amateur painters."

"It's gonna be a fun day," he said as the paint supplies were being set up.

Catie Hall, district manager of the company's Cleveland district -- including the Akron, Youngstown and Cleveland areas -- said Sherwin Williams provides the workers and materials for four or five projects per year.

"Giving back is a big feature of our company," Hall said.

The district is home to 63 Sherwin Williams stores.

The managers and volunteers of The Giving Place are poised and ready to move into the new retail space as soon as the paint dries and the carpet is laid.

An adjacent storefront and two storage units are filled with furniture and clothing, already priced and ready to display.

Display units from stores that have recently gone out of business -- Pier One, Dress Barn and Maurice's -- have been donated to the new store and are waiting to be used to feature items for sale.
